Phase II: ADA Bathrooms

The Firestone Park Inclusive Playground Project has been awarded $300,000 through the Ohio State Capital Budget to fund Phase II of our project—the construction of ADA-accessible restroom facilities.

While the Firestone Park Inclusive Playground Committee has led the fundraising and planning efforts for the playground, Phase II will be managed by the City of Columbiana, which will oversee the design and construction of the restroom facility.

From the beginning, our vision has been to create more than just an inclusive playground. We wanted to build a destination where individuals of all abilities and their families can spend an entire day together without facing accessibility barriers.

In addition to providing restroom facilities for all park visitors, the committee has advocated for specialized accessibility features that are rarely found in public parks. Our goal is for the building to include:

• A fully ADA-accessible family restroom
• An adult-sized changing table, providing a safe, comfortable, and dignified space for older children and adults who require caregiver assistance.
• A dedicated medical management room, offering a private, clean environment where individuals with complex medical needs can administer medications, manage feeding tubes, lactation space for mothers, or attend to other personal medical needs away from public view.

For many families, these accommodations are not simply conveniences—they are essential. The lack of appropriate facilities often limits where children and adults with disabilities or complex medical conditions can safely visit. By including these features, Firestone Park will become a destination where more families can enjoy outdoor recreation together with comfort, dignity, and peace of mind.

When completed, this project will represent another major step toward making Firestone Park one of the most accessible public parks in our region. We are incredibly grateful to the State of Ohio for this investment and to everyone who has supported our vision over the past two years.

Construction of Phase I, the all-inclusive playground, is currently underway. We look forward to working alongside the City of Columbiana as Phase II begins and bringing this important addition to life for our community.
